SAS annual show held in Exmouth
with the Exeter Bonsai Society 12th June 2011.
A personal view by Peter Toghill....
WOW, What a show this year
and the standard of trees was excellent.
For the two weeks prior to the 12th of
June the committee of the Satsuki Azalea Society had been preparing for the
visit of Masayasu Nishiyama (" Mack " )from Japan and the Show
at Exmouth. Most members travelled down to the West Country on the
previous day and spent a lovely evening in bright sunshine, full of
expectations about the show.
On the morning of the show we got up at
6am to horizontal heavy rain and strong winds. We went off to the show
and removing our trees from the cars to the hall on the sea front we lost
half our flowers. The stand was put up and the trees arranged on the tables
provided, and I must say they all looked very good. See photo's below. Mack
had arranged to restyle and reconstruct two trees. One which a fence had
fallen on and another which was very weak. He had some 30 people watching
him for about two hours, who were spell bound by his work and his knowledge
of trees. He had to stop at about 1230 hrs in order that the pre-arranged
'New Talent' contest could go ahead, but several people bought trees in for
him to look at and give advice on.
In all a very successful day apart
from the awful weather. The society have been invited to attend next year
with the hope of better weather and more people attending.
Our grateful
thanks go to all those members, and well wishers, who worked so hard to
produce a memorable show, and also to the Pavilions Hotel staff and caterers.
We must also thank The Exeter
Bonsai Society for giving us the opportunity to join with them at their
show, and specifically Roger Bennett for his hard work in organising the show.

Thanks go to all those members who
sent pictures of the event to me
